Happy New Year!

On this first day of 2009, we reflect on the previous year, its positives and its
negatives.

We had an election with the highest turnout in a long time, and elected
someone that just might have good ideas to fix the last eight year's
problems.

I want us to remember that as intelligent and earnest Barack Obama is, even
he cannot do all of this in one month, not even in one year, and probably not
even in one term.

We need to be patient - because the magnitude of the problems across this
country is unfathomable.

We need to keep hope alive while being patient - because giving up too soon
could undo worlds of good that could come of the new administration.

We need to work hard to get along with each other, even when that is
difficult, even when we feel badly, and wish to make someone pay for past
mistakes.  We can only fix what is wrong by admitting that we all have to
work to fix it.

When we fight for the right, we must fight fair.  When we fight for justice,
we must fight with our intellects, not our fists.  When we fight for
accountability, we must remember it takes many heads, hands, and hearts to
make something right that has been wrong.

Only then do we all win.
